The Karma Theory is the theory of ignorance and meant for the ignorant populace.+

The ‘Self’ is not you, but the Self is the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. The karma theory is based on the birth entity whereas the Soul is birthless and deathless because it is the ever formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.

The Soul, the ‘Self’ is not limited to you because it pervades everything and everywhere in the world in which you exist.

The Karma theory is based on the form, time, and space. Without the form, time, and space the doer, doing and the world ceases to exist.  From the standpoint of the Soul, the form, time and space are an illusion.  If the form, time, and space are an illusion the doer, doing and the world is bound to be an illusion.  Thus,, the karma theory is based on illusory reality is bound to falsehood.

The individual experiences within the practical world are a reality only within the waking experience,, but the waking experience itself is an illusion created out of the consciousness. If the waking experience is an illusion then practical life within the practical world bound to be an illusion.

The karma theory is not meant for those who have chosen the religious and yogic path which are based on the birth entity whereas the Atmic path is pure spirituality is based on the birthless Soul, innermost Self.

That is why Sage Goudpada says that: - The merciful Veda teaches karma and Upasana to people of lower and middling intellect while Jnana is taught to those of higher intellect.

The Atmic path or the path of wisdom is the independent path.  The Soul has no karma, therefore; the karma theory is noting do with the Soul, which is birthless and deathless.
Thus,, the experience of birth, life, death, and the world is the dualistic illusion.  The Advaitic orthodoxy is stuck with the karma theory and rituals are stuck with the theory meant for the lower mindset think by glorifying their Guru and conceptual God and indulging in all sorts non-Vedic (Puranic) rituals they get Moksha.

Religious orthodox think that through their good karma and performing rituals they get moksha.

According to Advaita Vedanta, the Veda addresses itself to two kinds of audiences -There are two kinds of audiences - the ordinary ones who desire the transitory heaven and other pleasures obtained as a result of ritual sacrifices, and the most advanced seeker who seeks to know the truth beyond the form, time, and space. The Religious orthodoxy is meant for the first audience, to help lead its followers along the way. The Atmic path emphasis on the Advaitic wisdom is meant for those who wish to go beyond such transient pleasures.
That is why Sage Sankara: ~ VC- Let erudite scholars quote all the scripture, let Gods be invoked through sacrifices, let elaborate rituals be performed, let personal Gods be propitiated---yet, without the realization of one‘s identity with the Self, there shall be no liberation for the individual, not even in the lifetimes of a hundred Brahmas put together (verses-6)
Sage Sankara: ~ Action (karma) cannot destroy ignorance, for it is not in conflict with or opposed to ignorance. Knowledge does verily destroy ignorance as light destroys deep darkness. (Atma Bodha)
Remember:~
Sage Sankara says in Aparoksh Anubhuti: ~ 88. When the whole universe, movable and immovable, is known to be Atman, and thus the existence of everything else is negated, where is then any room to say that the body is Atman?

   89. O enlightened one; pass your time always contemplating on Atman while you are experiencing all the results of Prarabdha; for it ill becomes you to feel distressed.

   90. The theory one hears from the scripture, that Prarabdha does not lose its hold upon one even after the origination of the knowledge of Atman, is now being refuted.

91. After the origination of the knowledge of Reality, Prarabdha verily ceases to exist, inasmuch as the body and the like become non-existent; just as a dream does not exist on waking.

   92. That Karma which is done in a previous life is known as Prarabdha (which produces the present life). But such Karma cannot take the place of Prarabdha (for a man of knowledge), as he has no other birth (being free from ego).

   93. Just as the body in a dream is superimposed (and, therefore, illusory), so is also this body. How could there be any birth of the superimposed (body), and in the absence of birth (of the body) where is the room for that (i.e., Prarabdha) at all?

94. The Vedanta texts declare ignorance to be verily the material (cause) of the phenomenal world just as the earth is of a jar. That (ignorance) being destroyed, where can the universe subsist?

95. Just as a person out of confusion perceives only the snake leaving aside the rope, so does an ignorant person see only the phenomenal world without knowing the reality?

   96. The real nature of the rope being known, the appearance of the snake no longer persists; so the substratum being known, the phenomenal world disappears completely.

97. The body also being within the phenomenal world (and, therefore, unreal), how could Prarabdha exist? It is, therefore, for the understanding of the ignorant alone that the Shruti speaks of Prarabdha.

98. And all the actions of a man perish when he realizes that (Atman) which is both the higher and the lower”. Here the clear use of the plural by the Shruti is to negate Prarabdha as well.

   99. If the ignorant still arbitrarily maintain this, they will not only involve themselves into two absurdities but will also run the risk of forgoing the Vedantic conclusion. So one should accept those Shrutis alone from which proceeds true knowledge.

The above proves that karma is a reality only from the dualistic perspective.  From the non-dualistic perspective,  the Karma theory has no value.

The Advaitic orthodoxy is based on the birth entity so it accepts the karma theory as a reality.  The karma theory is the theory of ignorance.  If you accept the karma theory as a reality, you will never be able to come out of ignorance. And ignorance makes you believe the cycle of birth, life, and death as a reality.  Thus, the freedom which you are seeking will remain a distant dream. For the one who accepts the birth, karma, and death as reality is unfit to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

Remember:~

The karma theory is meant for those who are immersed in worldly life thinking the individual life within the particle world as a reality. In the path of Wisdom, the karma theory becomes a great obstacle to realizing the truth.
When the Self is neither the body nor the ego, neither the waking entity, not the dream entity, then how the karma based on the false self within the false experience can yield fruits. Therefore, karma is a religious fable.
The karma theory is a reality only for those who believe their present physical identity (ego) as real, and the world as reality.
When Sage Sankara declares the world itself is an illusion, and Brahman is real, then what value the karma theory has when the world is an illusion, because man is part and parcel of the illusory world. Therefore, one has to view and judge the worldview from the standpoint of Brahman (Atman) in order to overcome the duality, which he is experiencing it as a reality.
The individuality is a reality within the illusory world.
Therefore, all the theories created within the illusion on the base of the false entity, within the false experience, has to be the part and parcel of the illusion.
Thus, it is necessary to realize the fact that, the Soul, the innermost Self is real and eternal and all else is an illusion, to overcome the illusory experience of birth, life, death, and the world. Thus to understand and assimilate Sage Sankara’s Advaitic truth, the seeker has to do his own homework through inquiry, analysis, and reasoning on the true base, without mixing religion, scriptures, theories concepts of God and yoga.
The karma is a reality only on the base of false Self, where one thinks the body and the universes as reality. When one becomes aware of the fact that, the true Self is formless Soul, then the karma becomes part and parcel of illusion. My point is that, if one accepts the karma theory as reality, he will never be able to come out of ignorance. And ignorance makes him believe the cycle of birth, life, and death as a reality. Thus, the freedom which one is seeking will remain a distant dream. For the one who accepts the birth, life, and death as a reality, Self-knowledge is impossible.
Sage Goudpada says: ~ The merciful Veda teaches karma and Upasana to people of lower and middling intellect while Jnana is taught to those of higher intellect.
It means the people who follow the religion and the worship of the Guru and the conceptual Gods and believe in karma theory are lower and middling intellect. But in this modern world, people are sharp enough to understand and assimilate the ultimate truth or Brahman or God. Thus, it is high time to discard the lower knowledge and move ahead to realize the ultimate truth, which is Brahman or God.
Upanishads:~  They alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Ataman. The ordinary man does not understand their way. (Chapter IV — Alatasanti Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada)
Therefore, if one is seeking the truth, he has to know his true Self is not physical, but it is the  Soul, which is in the form of consciousness. ~ Santthosh Kumaar

As the seeker advances in his quest of truth he finds ‘WHO AM ‘I’? and ‘I AM THAT' inadequate and useless.+

Sage Sankara says:~ “What is accepted without a proper inquiry will not lead to the final Goal”. (Commentary on Vedanta Sutra)

Nothing has to be accepted as truth without verification.

WHO AM ‘I’? and ‘I AM THAT'   are only stages.  They are helpful at the beginning of the pursuit of truth. As the seeker advances in his quest for truth, he finds them inadequate and useless.

The inner journey will not end with ‘WHO AM ‘I’? and ‘I AM THAT'   the journey is incomplete.  It is WHO AM ‘I’? and ‘I AM THAT  teaching are final because they are only based on the form and they omit the time and space.

The journey will be completed only when we discover the truth of the whole that is the form, time, and space together. Thus, sticking to 'WHO AM ‘I’?' and ‘I AM THAT' teaching as final and stopping the journey is a foolish venture.   If you are a serious seeker of truth and you want to realize the truth of your true existence then you must be ready to drop what is not needed in pursuit of truth.  Nothing has to be accepted without deeper verification.

All the teachings are useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known.

The seeker has to dive deeper and deeper to unfold the mystery of his true existence.
The basic purpose of seeking the truth is to discover the truth of our true existence.  The truth of our true existence will be revealed only by discovering the source of physical existence. Physical existence means the universe.

First, analyze the universe.  How this universe came into existence. And what this universe is supposed to be in truth.

As you go deeper and deeper in analyzing you will discover that the universe is dependent on the ‘I’. Without the ‘I’ the universe ceases to exist.

Thus the ‘I’ is the main ingredient to investigate.

As you go deeper you will find: ~

The ‘I’ appears along with the universe.

The ‘I’ disappears along with the universe.

As you go still deeper you will find:~

The ‘I’ is there only when the mind is there.

The ‘I’ appears along with the mind.

The ‘I’ disappears along with the mind.

As you go deeper you will find: ~

The mind appears along with the universe.

The mind disappears along with the universe.

As you go deeper you will find: ~

The universe appears along with waking experience

The universe disappears along with waking experience.

As you go deeper you will find: ~

The dream universe appears along with the dream.

The dream universe disappears along with the dream.

The dream is a parallel waking experience.

The waking experience is a parallel dream.

As you go deeper you will find: ~

I’ disappears in deep sleep.

Along with the ‘I’ the mind disappears.

Along with the  ‘I’ the universe disappears.

Along with the ‘I’ the waking disappears.

Along with the ‘I’ dream disappears.

So,

‘I’ is one behind the mind.

The ‘I’ is the one behind the universe.

The ‘I’ is the one behind the waking.

The ‘I’ is the one behind the dream.

So,

Where does this ‘I’ disappear in deep sleep?

As you go deeper you will find: ~

The duality is present only when ‘I’ is present.

The duality is present only when the mind is present.

The duality is present only when the universe is present.

The duality is present only when the waking is present.

The duality is present only when the dream is present.

But

The duality is absent in deep sleep.

The ‘I’ is absent in deep sleep.

The mind is absent in deep sleep.

The universe is absent in deep sleep.

The waking is absent in deep sleep.

The dream is absent in deep sleep.

So,

In deep sleep,  there is only the non-dualistic or Advaitic reality.

So, find out,

What is it that appears as duality and what is it that disappears nonduality?

~ It is the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness is the cause of the ‘I’ and it is uncaused.

The Soul ~ the One without the Second

The Soul is the spiritual heart. The Soul is Self-evident. It is not established by extraneous proofs. It is not possible to deny the Soul because It is the very essence of the one who denies It. The Soul is the basis of all kinds of knowledge, presuppositions, and proofs. Self is within, the Self is without; the Self is before, the Self is behind; the Self is on the right, the Self is on the left;  the Self is above and the Self is below.  The Soul is everything. Thus, the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness, is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.

There is no need to accept what I write but verify by diving deeply to realize the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space. :~Santthosh Kumaar

The scriptures are meant for the ignorant populace. Scriptures have no value for the seeker of truth.+

The Scriptures' mastery, the force of religious merit--none of these lead to the realization of that Ultimate Truth or Brahman. The ultimate truth is revealed in the clear understanding and realization of ‘what is the truth and ‘what is the untruth.  When one realizes the untruth (universe) is created out of single stuff, Self-awareness rises in the midst of duality exposing the unreal nature of the form, time, and space.

The ultimate truth has to be realized first then only it is possible to know what the scriptures are saying. I do not require any scriptures.

I quote Scriptural citation and also the citation of the sages of truth only after verifying reality and proving the truth, to point out that the scriptures teach the same thing. If one quotes them before having demonstrated truth, then it is scholasticism.

Scriptures are being added from time to time. This process will go on. There is the final authority among them? One contradicts the other: duality reigns supreme.

Self-knowledge cannot be attained by the study of the scriptures and intellectual understanding or by bookish knowledge.  Therefore, there is no use in studying the scriptures and other scriptures in order to acquire non-dual wisdom.  That is why Buddha rejected the scriptures, and even Sage Sankara indicated that the ultimate truth lies beyond religion, the religious concept of God, and the scriptures.

The seeker should not bother about finding the meaning of what is written in the scriptures.  The scripters are not necessary to realize the ultimate truth or Brahman.

The scriptures are meant for the ignorant populace. Scriptures have no value for the seeker of truth.

That is why Sage Sankara said: ~ Neither by the practice of yoga nor philosophy, nor by good works nor by learning, does liberation come, but only through the realization that Atman and Brahman are one in no other way. (1) VivekaChudamani v 56, pg 25

Even Upanishads clearly declare: ~

Katha Upanishad 1:2:23:~ The Soul cannot be realized through hearing the scholarly explanation of the discourses, not even by the intellect.

Katha Upanishad 1:3:6:~ Through the knowledge of the Soul, God, one is pure and clean constantly.” Neither by reading the books nor by taking a bath at the holy place has one become pure. Inner purity is possible when one remains in constant touch with the Soul. Constant Soul-Consciousness is real purity.

Kena Upanishad 2:4:~   When it is known through every state of cognition, it is rightly known, for (by such knowledge) one attains life eternal. Through one's own Self, one gains power and through wisdom, one gains immortality.

Kena Upanishad 2:5:~ If here one knows it, then there is the truth, and if here one knows it not, there is a great loss. Hence, seeing the Real in all beings, wise men become immortal on departing from this world.

Mundaka Upanishad 1:2:8:~ “Remaining in the fold of ignorance and thinking “we are extremely wise and learned,” the fools with boastful nature ramble about like the blind led by the blind alone.”

Mundaka Upanishad 3:2:3:~ “The weak and timid cannot realize the Self. Self-Realization is not possible through intellect or hearing the spiritual discourse."

Mundaka Upanishad 3:2:3:~ The Soul cannot be realized by the weak and timid.

Sage Sri, Sankara says ~   VC~ 56. Neither by Yoga, nor by Sankhya, nor by work, nor by learning, but by the realization of one's identity with Brahman is Liberation possible, and by no other means.

58. Loud speech consisting of a shower of words, the skill in expounding the Scriptures, and likewise erudition - these merely bring on a little personal enjoyment to the scholar but are no good for Liberation.

59. The study of the Scriptures is useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known.

60. The Scriptures consisting of many words are a dense forest that merely causes the mind to ramble. Hence, men of wisdom should earnestly set about knowing the true nature of the Self.

61. For one who has been bitten by the serpent of Ignorance, the only remedy is the knowledge of Brahman. Of what avail are the Vedas and (other) Scriptures, Mantras (sacred formulae), and medicines to such a one?

62. A disease does not leave off if one simply utters the name of the medicine, without taking it; (similarly) without direct realization one cannot be liberated by the mere utterance of the word Brahman.

63. Without causing the objective universe to vanish and without knowing the truth of the Self, how is one to achieve Liberation by the mere utterance of the word Brahman? — It would result merely in an effort of speech.

64. Without killing one’s enemies, and possessing oneself of the splendor of the entire surrounding region, one cannot claim to be an emperor by merely saying, ‘I am an emperor’.

Till one knows the truth of his true existence, whatever he knows about God is mere belief. Belief is individual whereas the ultimate truth is universal every belief system has its own idea of God thus, there is no universality in the belief system.

All these experiences as the father, son, Guru, and pupil were one and the same consciousness appearing differently. All these distinctions disappear when one realizes the ultimate truth.:~Santthosh Kumaar

Searching the truth within illusion with the illusory Self, within the illusory world is bound to be an illusion.+

The seeker has to examine the ‘I’ under the mental microscope. The seeker must bring the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space out of vagueness into clearness. Dualistic knowledge is not Self- knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

All the paths and practices, theoretical philosophies, yoga are based on the dualistic perspective, therefore; they are nothing to with the ultimate truth or Brahman.
A Gnani wears no signs. Gives up the insignia of a monk's life…his signs are not manifest, nor his behavior."

Gnana is usually translated as "knowledge", but that is because there is no equivalent word in English. It is more accurately "contentless consciousness" or “Self-awareness”.
For a Gnani his body is not the body, the ego is not the ego, the world is not the world but everything is the consciousness even though he is in the midst of the dualistic illusion. Realizing the ultimate truth is called wisdom. Advaitic truth is very easy to assimilate if you are able to drop his accumulated knowledge and inborn samskara (I).
Only you have to realize your body and your experience of the world are one in essence to bring unity in diversity in your understanding. Perfect understanding and assimilation of ‘what is what’ lead to Self-awareness.

We all are searching for truth within the dualistic illusion not being aware of the fact that the illusion is created out of single stuff. That single stuff is consciousness.
Remember, ‘Self’ is not you but the ‘Self’ is the Soul is the Self. The Soul is present in the form of consciousness.
Searching the truth within illusion with the illusory Self, within the illusory world is bound to be an illusion.
The illusion is created and sustained and finally dissolves as the consciousness. There is no second thing that exists other than consciousness. Consciousness is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth. :~Santthosh Kumaar

You are not ‘THAT’ because you are not the Self. ‘THAT ‘is not ‘you’ to say that ‘I AM THAT.+

You are not ‘THAT’ because you are not the Self. ‘THAT ‘is not ‘you’ to say that ‘I AM THAT’.  By simply saying ‘I AM THAT’ the wisdom will dawn.

You are bound by form, time, and space.   You are bound by birth, life, death, and the world. Just by saying ‘I AM THAT’ one will not realize the truth, beyond the form, time, and space.  If some guru says.

Right here, right now realize ‘you are that nothing will be realized.  It is only playing with words. Perfect understanding of ‘what is what leads to Self-awareness.

Until one thinks ‘I’ or ‘I AM’ as the Self, their understanding is egocentric. The egocentric understanding is not the realization of the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.

That is why Ashtavakra Gita 16:10:~ If you desire liberation, but you still say "I",  If you feel the ‘Self’ is the ‘I’, You are not a wise man or a seeker. You are simply a man who suffers.

Even after knowing the ‘Self’ is not ‘I’ people are stuck to ‘I’- centric teaching and Gurus. Those who are stuck with ‘I’ or ‘I AM’ will never be able to get rid of ignorance.

All the Gurus glorified the ‘I’. Thus, it becomes very difficult to discard the ‘I’. Those who have accepted the ‘I-centric teaching refuse to accept anything other than their accepted truth.

Until you hold the ‘Self’ as the ‘I’, your knowledge remains skin deep.

What is it that appears as the ‘I’ and disappears as the ‘I-less? It is the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.

Do not make the mistake of holding the ‘I’ as the Self because it is not permanent. ‘I’ disappears and becomes ‘I’-less.

‘I’ is an illusion and the ‘I-LESS’ is real and eternal. The ‘I-LESS ‘appears as ‘I’ and ‘I ’‘disappears as I-LESS.

Bhagavad Gita: ~ The permanent is always there, only the transient ‘I’ comes and goes. (2.18)

Until you hold the ‘Self ‘as the ‘I’ you will never be able to get Self-realization.  ‘I’ hides the Soul, which is the Self. ‘

I’ is ignorance.

‘I’ is the duality.

‘I’ is form, time, and space.

‘I’ is the universe.

‘I’ is the waking.

‘I’ is the dream.

‘I’ is the illusion.

‘I’ is the experience of birth, life, death, and the world.

But

Without the ‘I’ there is no ignorance.

Without the ‘I’ there is no duality.

Without the ‘I’ there is no form, time and space.

Without the ‘I’ there is no universe.

Without the ‘I’ there is no waking.

Without the ‘I’ there is no dream.

Without the ‘I’ there is no illusion.

Without the ‘I’ there is no experience of birth, life, death, and the world.

The ‘I’ hides the truth of the whole.

Remember the 'Self is not 'I' or I AM but the 'Self' is the Soul, the witness of the 'I' or I AM.: ~Santthosh Kumaar
